The death of his beloved wife, Ligeia, sends the narrator of this tale into the deepest of opium fuelled despair. His remarriage to the fair Rowena is a disaster, and his new wife is taken ill soon after the nuptials, fancying that the bridal chamber is haunted by a ghostly spirit.
